Tunji Adeniyi-Jones, Vibrant Virtues at Dusk
2021, Oil on canvas
Christie's, London
Settled
Tunji Adeniyi-Jones is one of the most talked-about young painters of the moment, born in London in 1992 and rooted in his Nigerian heritage. His swirling, dancing figures draw on Yoruba mythology and West African textiles, and his market took off almost overnight after his 2021 debut shows. This large 2021 canvas comes from Melodic Virtues, the Los Angeles exhibition that helped make his name. It last sold at Sotheby's New York in May 2023, near the peak of his market, so the estimate of 40,000 to 60,000 pounds will test where he stands now. Young artists with this much buzz can surprise in either direction.
