Doron Langberg, Joe and Edgar
2020, Oil on linen
Christie's, London
Settled
Doron Langberg is a leading voice in a new generation of queer figurative painters, born in Israel in 1985 and based in New York. His tender, loosely brushed scenes of lovers, friends and everyday intimacy have made him one of the most collected young painters of the past few years. This big 2020 canvas, nearly two and a half metres tall, shows two men at rest and comes from his 2021 exhibition Breakfast Under The Tree at Carl Freedman Gallery in Margate. His market rose fast after 2020, with major galleries and museum shows following quickly. The estimate of 40,000 to 60,000 pounds will show whether collectors still chase his largest works.
